This is going to be another open thread about the upcoming election. There were excellent comments on the last one. If the Bass vs the city of City of Huxley is upheld, the city council would have to pass a new resolution for Malin's tenure, and then renegotiate his contract. At worse, they may have to do the same for Chief Bladel. And of course we have the ongoing crime wave which with the cold weather seems to have shifted to vehicle thefts. So again I'll ask; who do you think should run, and who's out? I also think changing the meetings is wrong, and I believe that public statement session at the end should be longer. Yes there are people who get up to speak who don't say what you want to hear. But think of this, if they didn't get up to speak, the council would say there's no need for that part of the meeting. Remember Nicki Bowles? She took a beating from the public for being the most informed speaker at the meeting. Don't let them take this away from us, I believe that would be very bad for our city.
Keep the open mic.
I'm going to be in and out for a while so I'll close with this- I think if Wayne Hean ran for 5th ward, and Alderman Meyer for the At-Large position and won, we would see some changes in the crime problem. I know Hean took a lot of heat the last time he ran, but I still voted for him. Dan Lubel and Phil Yerrington did an excellent smear campaign on him to get him out. What were they afraid of? I think that would be better for the 5th ward and the city with two city council members who actually cared what voters thought and got things done around the city. So, please remember our troops in harms way. And let us know what you think. And I've already been called crazy so come up with something new.
Does any have a good city council roster in mind? Who should run, and who should stay on the porch?
I changed things around a bit, and added a few things. It's as new to me as it is to you, but I think it'll work. As usual I'll try to have a variety of topics, but come summer there will be more postings about car events. You can email me at cruisaholic@hotmail.com Keep the shiny side up!

What about a complete newcomer to the political scene? Someone who doesn't have a historical bias from either side and won't succomb to political favor waving. Someone who is able to bring a fresh approach and bring everybody together to break the law breakers backs.
Why would having Alderman Meyer as an at-large help anything? He still gets the one vote on the council, and some people would still not take him seriously.
Plus he would lose. I mean... I should encourage him to go for it, but I'm not that devious.
I'm sure Alderman Meyer serves his purpose for his ward. If he runs for an at-large position he would be out of the council. I can see how people who don't know him would not take him seriously. I sure didn't when I first met him. I don't agree with him on a lot of points but it's good to have at least one voice to keep the rest in check.
I haven't been in Davenport for very long but it seems that anyone who runs for a council seat is bashed by more people than they get applause from. The names being mentioned here and elswhere don't seem to be getting ravenous applause either.
I wouldn't have a problem with someone new. Everyone in office has a first term. If Alderman Meyer was in the At-Large position he'd just do what he's doing now, and yes it's only one vote. And people should take him seriously. I threw some names out as my pick just to start things off. And yes council members get applauded and bashed often here. No one seems to be getting a majority nod but some are getting shot down. This is just about who you think would do better, or worse. It's even about if you like things the way they are. It's an intelligent discussion of what we, as citizens, would like to see in our city government.
Here's a question just for fun. Who is running that you think should not run and why?

Billy Lynn (self proclaimed business expert) needs to go. You don't need to be a political junky to know this guy doesn't have the publics best interest in mind. He gutted the NEO without a followup plan laughs about it. He stated that "it didn't work" but when you ask him what didn't work, he hasn't an answer. Now we have to play phone tag with three different offices to get one property cleaned up. He follows the media vans around and even calls the press to make off the wall comments that could damage the cities rep. I'm not a big fan of Walter Skrovonski, but I do hope Walter runs against Lynn and end Lynn's political career.
Matt McDonnell-The next Eighth Ward Alderman. This guy has a great business sense about him. He is straight to the point and has been a life long resident. It would be great to have some young blood up there doing what right for us and the future of Davenport.
Alderman Meyer needs to stay in his own ward only due to the fact that those who he now serves know him and understand him. Lets not put his head out on the chopping block for some smooth talking shister to mock him. He's much to valuable to loose.
Matt would be great and luckily for hims Dumas is another Bushek. Meaning, I predict a landslide. What were you thinking when you all voted for Dumas??? Really he can now be called with confidence DUM - ASS.
Meyer is AWESOME. We need him and I pray Boom does not run against him and try and bash him again like he did before. Boom is bossy and doe snot listen well. He will fly with the crowd instead of deciding things for the people.
