I changed things around a bit, and added a few things. It's as new to me as it is to you, but I think it'll work. As usual I'll try to have a variety of topics, but come summer there will be more postings about car events. You can email me at cruisaholic@hotmail.com Keep the shiny side up!

Newton track
The new track in Newton, Iowa is about to open. A big grand opening is planned soon with all the bells and whistles. This is another project Davenport didn't want. It will be interesting to see how well it does. If you want more information please go
here.
Also gas prices being so high might have an some effect on attendence, but I doubt it. Race fans will show up for a first class venue. How high will gas prices go now that BP is shutting down their pipeline? I've heard everything from a few cents to over $1. I think this administration had better do something or things are going to get ugly. If your old enough to remember the gas shortages of the 1970's you know what I mean.
I had someone ask me what their old car was worth yesterday, of course it was in perfect condition, low mileage, and collectible. When I get asked this question I always wonder why they bother to ask. It's not my field of expertise, I haven't seen or heard the car and I don't carry a price guide everywhere I go. Maybe I'll just start saying "it's worth what someone will give you for it" and leave it at that.

I'm not at all a fan of Nascar, but if Davenport could have gotten the track built early enough to still make it onto the schedule, that would have been an amazing thing for the area. We think 20,000 people visiting for the JDC or Bix is a good thing, how about 70,000 people visisting for our yearly Nascar race?
Oh well, it was another thing shot down by a vocal minority, in this case a few neighbors who feared it being used weekly like the fairgrounds.
I've heard we could have had the Mark and lost it to Moline, but I consider losing the racetrack to be the worst thing Davenport's ever passed up. And that's from a non-fan.
Compared to other things around here, like concerts at the Mark, the ticket prices aren't bad. I know some people who make almost every race at every track so I know it'll draw people. Between Nascar and USAC someone is going to pull in some serious money.
When we lost the track here wasn't it at least in part because the guy who proposed it couldn't come up with his share of the money? Maybe we could try for Six Flags over Blackhawk.
You can thank the former Alderman Nicholas for stopping the race track.
