Just some stuff from the news that got me thinking. In Texas the police are going into bars and arresting people for public intoxication. That ought to be good for business.
Locally, the gunfights have getting out of hand in hurry. The only good thing is that these guys can't seem to hit anything but gas pipes. I think the Sherriff's department should issued permits to carry to any law abiding citizen who wants one. It might change these punks habits if they have to guess whether someone is packing or not.
The police union aren't happy campers anymore. I wish I could have been at the meeting between the police union, Bladel and Malin. I bet that was something.
On the council it seems to me like Meyers, Lynn and Hammerlink are getting a lot of grief for doing what they said they would do if elected. How quickly people forget. The Tuna Brigade brought this whole mess to us and it seems Ed has enlisted. Too bad.
And lastly, it was good to see Nicki in the Times, if only on the opinion page. We need her to keep the Tuna Brigade on their toes. I like how Charlie says "out of order" when all she was telling was the truth. The way it's going, the meetings won't be held in the bat cave much longer.
I changed things around a bit, and added a few things. It's as new to me as it is to you, but I think it'll work. As usual I'll try to have a variety of topics, but come summer there will be more postings about car events. You can email me at cruisaholic@hotmail.com Keep the shiny side up!

In Davenport, the police would be more likely to install cameras in bars and automatically mail people citations for intoxication...
The cops, the Tunas, that Davenport city hall gadflies -- most of them need to get honest jobs and lives so they have something worthwhile to do with their time.
Re: Concealed carry, There is currently a bill before the statehouse in Des Moines. Call your legislators and let them know that you support concealed carry.
That way instead of fist fight road rage we'll have gunfights on Elmore.
Not at all. In Florida and Texas it has actually lowered the crime rate. Crooks think twice about breaking in because they don't know who's locked and loaded and who isn't. Gunowners are responsible people, and more lenient than you might think. That's like saying people who know Karate are going to beat people up at random. When I had my permit to carry, I never shot anyone or even pulled a gun on anyone.
In 2003 those 2 states had the 4th and 5th worst crime rates in America. Not exactly a glowing recommendation.
I still say it's not as bad as it seems. For the year 2000, the crime idexes were as follows-
Florida-5,694.7
Illinois-4,286.2
Iowa-3,233.7
Texas-4,955.5
That being said Florida's population is 7 times ours and Texas has 10 times as many people as Iowa. Both depend very heavily on tourism, Iowa doesn't. They are not the safest states, but not the worse by far.
