My post a while back on crime rates seemed a little bias, so I did a little more research and here are some new statistics. The National crime rate average is 329.7.
St. Louis, Mo. crime rate 1,087.0
Chicago, Ill. crime rate 666.4
Davenport, Ia. crime rate 626.1
Minneapolis crime rate 608.3
Omaha, Neb. crime rate 495.0
Des Moines crime rate 382.1
Cedar Rapids crime rate 334.0
Moline, Ill. crime rate 297.2
Now my question for the city council, police chief, D1, or whoever can come up with an answer is; Why is our crime rate closer to Chicago than Des Moines? If our city is this unsafe, and news of it gets out, will the tourists still come? These figures are the latest compiled (2003). With only one city below the average, and that one not in Iowa, I think we could do better.
I changed things around a bit, and added a few things. It's as new to me as it is to you, but I think it'll work. As usual I'll try to have a variety of topics, but come summer there will be more postings about car events. You can email me at cruisaholic@hotmail.com Keep the shiny side up!

To bad we can't get statistics for SOLO vs. NOLO. Half the time the cop that is supposed to be in my area is SOLO. So I'm getting short changed in the police protection scope of things.
It could be done, but it would take quite a while. The only way I know of th do it is to get the police call records for each area for a certain time frame, say a month, and then study the data. The info is free, but the police department charges like a dime per page to print it, and that can add up. I'll look into it, but can't promise anything.
In a 2003 study of Castlewood apartments there were, I think, around 800 calls in 3 months.
