I changed things around a bit, and added a few things. It's as new to me as it is to you, but I think it'll work. As usual I'll try to have a variety of topics, but come summer there will be more postings about car events. You can email me at cruisaholic@hotmail.com Keep the shiny side up!

Busy open thread

I'm going to be busy this weekend so here's a open thread. Comment on some of my stuff, make up your own, gripe about something, or just keep the shiny side up.

The grafitti problem is getting under control around S-A-L, nothing solved on the vandalism around it, and it's going to get colder. Here's a few other thoughts.

Being a person of the older generation, I remember when gas stations sold just gas. If this fad came back I would be among the first patrons. I think I remember paying for gas without waiting in a line of people buying milk, cigarettes, or lottery tickets.

I still say, if you rich dudes are reading my drivel, that someone should open an honest to God Drive-In restaurant. Something along the lines of the old A & W or Dean's. A real nostalgic place that would be a destination for young and old alike. Maybe even a big blank white wall outside to show movies on the weekend. Whoever does this would keep the kids off the street, the older generation happy; and I'll bet, make a healthy chunk of change without any local competition. Now the closest Drive-In is in Muscatine.

If things run as usual, the City Council will screw up the camera lawsuit and it will be George Bush's fault. Because almost the entire council, except 2 members that I know of, don't see a problem even if the judge did. It seems even the County Treasurer is getting into the act with his latest move. Enjoy the weather, it's not going to last much longer.

I would like to thank whoever is repsonsible for getting rid of the grafitti I mentioned on an earlier post. I went cruisin a little today and the grafitti was gone behind Sav-A-Lot and also the laundromat on East 12th. had a fresh coat of paint over the grafitti. Great job.

Sonic is alright, but it's a drive-through. I mean a honest to goodness drive-in. Pull into the lot, pick a spot, talk into the little box, and the food comes to your car where you park. Turn the lights on when you want the tray picked up. We go to Sonic, but parking and walking up to a little window just isn't the same.

What about Ted's. I would give almost anything for a tomatoburger or a hollywood right now.

I forgot about Ted's, you got me drooling. Then there was King's on Brady with their Cheese Frenchy, a deep fried grilled cheese sandwich. Man I miss those days.

Sonic is about the most popular fast food place in the Phoenix area, and they're true drive-ins down there. I don't know how many people around here want to sit and eat in their car during the winter though.

It isn't really a winter thing. Most drive-ins of old also had seating inside like Dean's. I just think if done right a drive-in would be a real money maker.

Hmm, I didn't know about the inside seating. Sonic, at least in Arizona, doesn't have any interior seating. I vaguely remember an A&W on West Kimberly near Pine? Maybe I was just told about it though, or am dreaming.

No you aren't dreaming. I think it's a little independent used car dealer now. We have cruises to the Sonic accross the river, but it's just not the same. Oh well, we'll never see gas at 25 cents a gallon anymore either.
