Since it's Saturday, I got to thinking. Man, I hate that when it happens. Anyway what I was thinking about is why are there so many crime related shows on TV?
Almost everyone in a position of authority doesn't want to admit there's a problem, but year after year the shows stay on the air. COPS, America's Most Wanted, Real Stories of the Highway Patrol, Video Justice, Nancy Grace, Dateline's series on child molesters, etc. There's even a Court TV channel. If crime isn't an issue, why do these shows keep popping up? They're not as flashy as some shows, they don't have more drama, and they're real. Why don't we see something like Local Heroes of Government, or Developments of Central Cities, or How They Govern? Maybe it's just me but if you have any ideas I'd sure like to hear them.
I changed things around a bit, and added a few things. It's as new to me as it is to you, but I think it'll work. As usual I'll try to have a variety of topics, but come summer there will be more postings about car events. You can email me at cruisaholic@hotmail.com Keep the shiny side up!

It can give viewers a sense of good over evil. And though we all know that it is not true that evil takes it on the chin all the time, we get the satisfaction of saying gotcha sucker. Also because the viewers of Television/Movie/Music/Video Games crave violent fantasies. Violence is in our blood. Violence is the ultimate high. Police Shows, Sporting events, action movies etc. all offer the viewer a good guy bad guy violent fantasy experience. The difference is in the media industries you the viewer do not risk the injury a real participant of violent events does. Sports, which are addictive as a participant or a viewer, are just a less violent evolution of ancient gladiator games. Some like Football offer up a large dose of violent escapism. In many sports the fans include themselves either mentally or physically in the violence. One of the sports shows I get a kick out of, Pros vs. Joes, is the ultimate in fan participation. The most popular movies and TV shows nearly always revolve about violence, crime, fighting, war, and killing. Kids start in the early stages with video games. I can remember when pong came out everyone was excited. But as video games have evolved, the more action and violence packed the game is, the more popular the game. Even adults get hooked on the violent games. Violent video games like “Diablo” attract young and old.
