The jerk who shot the other jerk on Pershing in January was charged with another charge of felon in possession of a handgun when he was arrested. For more on this story go to the story.
There are also the usual rumors floating around. One that there was a shooting today involving one of the Howards. Another one there was grafitti sprayed on some SoLo garages last night. There were supposedly 3 more incidents involving cars being stopped and damaged by gangs of young men on West 14th. And a rumor that the City Council is going to bring back the meeting change issue again. Get ready people, it looks like they do want to limit public input. To all you people who give me a nod, I appreciate it. I don't normally name my sources unless I'm told up front it's ok. You know who you are and thank you. As is the norm, your comments are welcome.

The two pictures above are of two differnt garages that were victims of grafitti last night. There was also another garage and house, a wood fence, a shed, and a vacant boarded up house. All this happened Saturday night. Now these jerks don't even have the sense to go inside during weather like that.

13:30 hrs, this group of Howards went into the Kwik Shop at Locust and Marquette, approx twenty of them ran through the store taking what they want and then running out. They need to have auto locks on the doors to lock up when they see these thugs coming.
The police claim they weren't called there today. Were you there when it happened, or just hear it? I don't doubt it happened, just trying to tie it in with something else that's been going on.

Nothing happened at the Kwik Shop. The Police didn't recieve a call, and the manager who was working then said nothing happened. So either you don't like the business, or you should check your facts before reporting them as truth. I'm very serious about our crime problem, as are others. We don't have time to chase down false reports that don't go anywhere. If anyone sees a crime, or knows for a fact one occured, we welcome the news here. Rumors are also welcome, if presented as rumors. But all sources are checked. With all the hype this business has recieved lately, they don't need this.
This came out on across the scanner at the time. Offen the police don't respond to miscellanious calls such as these because it is hardly worth the time. I did hear it called out but there was no car assigned to the call because of the call load. Was the manager there all day? Maybe the dispatcher had the address wrong, that happens sometimes. But it did happen there within the past 24 hours.
The manager was there from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and didn't know anything. The guy working second shift also didn't know anything. As I told the manager, it would be hard to miss a large group of people shoplifting.
I've talked to the Kwik Shop employee at Jersey Ridge and she stated the if its not over $100 they don't gererally call the police because thief is always gone by the time the police respond and it is also a minor offence.
There also was a major fight in Goose Creek at 13:00 corner of Scott and Betsy Ross last Friday. One guy got loose from the cuffs and during the scuffle, kick an office in the mouth. He also had quite abit of crack on him. His bail was set at $150,000.
Pretty sure the dispatch came out to that business. It was also used in a reference later on in the day towards the same group. Officer saw a group of men and said they were the "Horwards".
If there isn't a police report filed there's not much that can be verified. Someone else said they heard a call to that Kwik Shop, but it involved some vandalism. Again, no police report. And even if they don't report under $100 as you say, their survaliance cameras could be used to find the people who were commiting the crimes.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO TAKE A PICTURE OF MY GARAGE AND POST IT ON THIS SITE? I DON'T THINK I LIKE IT, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S CONNECTED TO THE SHOOTING, WHICH WAS TWO OR THREE MILES AWAY!
Law states that if it is an open venue, anyone can take a picture or anything and publish it. It is not slandering you, so get over it fool. And by the way, clean it up.
Crusier, I also heard cross traffic about the group of kids and it did ref the Kwik Shop. I don't think it was an actual call though. I've been watching that area pretty close lately because of the increase in calls with juvies.
Jerry gave me permission to take a picture of your garage because I couldn't get ahold of you. I don't see where you say it looks like it's connected to the shooting. If you read the text, I think I made it obvious that they were separate incidents. If you want me to remove the picture just say so. I'll move the pictures closer to the bottom so people don't make the same conclusion.

we were just trying to connect this incident, if it can proven, to the problems on West 14th. But as I stated earlier, no one will confirm it happened. It would be nice to get rid of those jerks.
Joe American: I am not a fool, nor do I consider the picture slanderous. I was concerned because it appeared right under the headline "man shot dead." Also, most people value their privacy. As far as cleaning it up, this happened right before midnight Saturday night. The weather precluded me cleaning it off yesterday, and I have been at work today. If you are referring to the general state of my garage, it is scheduled to be scraped and painted this spring (not that it's any of your business). Cruiser: you can use the picture, but please distinguish it from the headline. I'll take care of Jerry!

I moved the picture down. Take it easy on Jerry, I'll talk to you soon. The main reason I posted the pictures is to show the gang grafitti, not to ruin your day. If it ever happens again I'll make for sure you're ok with it first.
The shooting involving one of the Howard's over the weekend has been cleared up. Seems one of the Howard's was shot in the leg during a domestic dispute. Police also found some pot and a rock of crack cocaine on him. Both him and the woman involved are in jail.
Cruiser--thanks for your consideration in moving the picture. By the way, this isn't Mark--it's his wife. Sorry if I overreacted yesterday--it was a bad weekend! And don't worry, Jerry's still with us! :)

I am sending out a word of caution that should be spread around to
your neighbors. Until we get the situation under control, advise them to avoid the area of 14th Street and Gaines Street from about 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. There are large groups of young men roaming that area stopping vehicles or coming up to stopped vehicles and harassing the occupants.
If you must go through that area, make sure you are looking far enough ahead so you can turn off and avoid the situation if a large group of subjects is observed.

Pay attention to where the crimes are happening and what type of housing these thugs live in. There is a change in the air (hopefully).
