I'm going to do a 180 here and hit the binders for a bit. I've been saying what I'm against, this post is about something I'm for.
Alderman Meyer, I hope you would consider a run for Alderman-at-large. You have been an asset to this city and I feel we would be better served if you considered this. You get things done for citizens in the entire city anyway. I've mentioned things on this blog I wasn't happy with and with a few e-mails the problem was fixed. Others never even acknowledged they recieved an e-mail, or that they cared. You have acted on dirty streets, grafitti, vandalism, and drug dealers while others ignored it. I respect and appreciate this kind of actions in a City Council member.
Now, I've got some things to get done, but if whether you agree, want to tell me I'm nuts, or have any comments, please post them. Maybe if enough people feel like me and post their thoughts he will run. What do you think?
I changed things around a bit, and added a few things. It's as new to me as it is to you, but I think it'll work. As usual I'll try to have a variety of topics, but come summer there will be more postings about car events. You can email me at cruisaholic@hotmail.com Keep the shiny side up!

A very good suggestion, although the at-large position may become a thing of the past after this next election. My alderman is Barnhill and he is worthless. I'm not sure he even knows what a computer is. He seldom is home to answer the phone and his wife is a real b**ch when she answers the phone. Change is on the way in the 7th ward.
How long has Meyer been an Alderman? The reason I ask is maybe he should stick to his strengths and electorate base. If he's made a difference in your opinion wouldn't it be a shame to see him lose a more general election?
I have not been in Davenport for very long, three years, and my first impression of Alderman Meyer was not a good one. He seemed very unprofessional and, given the circumstances, almost rude in his behavior at this particular event. Since I've been here and gotten more in tune with how the city is being run, I give Alderman Meyer an A for effort and involvement as well as connecting with his constituents. I don't always agree with his side on some issues but he is a good advocate for the citizens of this fine community.
I've recieved quick responses from other alermen so I don't have much comparison to make.
I know he got reelected, so at least two. Even before that he attended city council meetings as a concerned citizen. I haven't had your luck with other alderman. I guess I'm saying he helps the whole city now; does anyone think it's doable if he decides to run? Or would you vote for him if he ran? Since the people I tend to run with share some of my views, I figured maybe I'd get a non-bias opinion putting it on the blog.
I don't think he'd make it.
The 6th ward just has too many people who actually come out and vote.
I think Alderman Meyer is an excellent example for paying Aldermen enough to have it be their full time job. Unlike nearly all of the other Aldermen, he actually has the time to take care of all the day-to-day stuff that we see around the blogs.
He represents the people who voted for him well, and he's one of the most accessible Aldermen, but I'm still never going to vote for him because of his stance towards downtown development. Anyone who was, or would have been against River Renaissance is never getting my vote. Whatever you think of downtown now, it would be 10x worse without the progress that's been made.
QCI,
Good points. It makes me a little mad that SoLo ward citizens don't show up to vote more. You stated your point well, so I'll agree to disagree again.
There are too many poor people SOLO to vote. It is a planned thing, the city concentrates poverty here and then wonders why people don't vote.
Poor people are still allowed to vote.
Barnhill's only job is an alderman. Look what we get out of him, not much.
Yes poor people can vote, and it's free. I don't know why more people don't vote. I wish they would. But with all the different issues who would you back? Would you like to see Alderman-At-Large Howard re-elected? No offense to anyone but I still think Alderman Meyer would be a better fit. Who should stay? Who should go? Our opinions do count, but only if we express them to someone else.
Dumas - go!
Howard - GO!
Frink- stay.
Meyer - stay!!!!
Barnhill - GO GO GO!
Ambrose - go!
VAN f - go!
Winborn - go!
Lynn - GO!
Brooke - Go.
Bladel - go
Malin - go.
Seems like you have it all planned out except for Hammerlink. Anyone else got this far along? If so; any thoughts of replacements?
Hammer - stay if he stops with siding with LUbell.
Frink and Meyer... I wouldn't have thought there'd be a lot of people who like both of them. Interesting.
Frink, Meyer, and the Hammer - Yes
Bladel - yes
Agree that all the others need to GO!
If the Police Officers aren't complaining about Bladel then he's not doing his job. Davenport needs new leadership, sooner than later.
Frink and Meyer have my blessing but a big "NO" to Hammerlinck, he doesn't do his homework and he has done a thing for Davenport. I have heard that Walter Skrovonski will be running for 5th ward, Matt McDonnell (the guy that got us the free garbage pick up during Christmas) is running for 8th ward. And, we all see it coming, Billy (goat) Lynn is running for Mayor.
It's going to be an interesting election. I wouldn't vote for Skrovonski. As for Alderman Lynn running for Mayor, I think that's going to be a crowded race. At first I thought Alderman Meyer should run for Mayor, but I think he'd have a better shot at Alderman-At-Large.
who else is running??
Heard the bald guy from Genesis was considering.
QCI has backers but I believe he has stated that he is not interested.
The big mouth dope that was beaten by the Hammer in the 2nd Ward primary has been trolling the meetings and is boning up for another run.
Even heard Donna Bushek is considering a return.
The eloquent red haired woman that has spoken several times and attends the meetings. I think her name might be Hodges.
Two guys from the police department are considering running.
It is going to be very interesting this next election.
I think Meyers better stay in his own ward where he has the most support, I would hate to lose him. The way Bill "Big Mouth" Boom is struting around with the DAI, he may run. I have talked to Jen Olsen, she is a possible. Barnhill has told me that he will not run again due to his and family health. But I would have to say that Walter Skrovonsky would be a good alderman. He is honest and caring, he just has a different way about of showing it. I guess time will tell who will actually be there when the papers are do. Anything is better than this current council. Aldermen Lynn, Ambrose, Hammerlinck, Howard, Dumas, and Van Fossen have got to go!
My dog can beat Dumas. I am just amazed by him and Steve Grubbs. Grubbs was supposed to be a big political powerhouse and look was happened to him? He lost the Whalen thing, DUmas is just absolutely WORTHLESS and actually his behavior has ruined his plans to run for higher office. A note to the future candidates - you are better off withour GROWDAV and without Grubbs really.
Boom is sooooo bossy.
Let me get this straight. Walter Skrovonski is "honest and caring".
Hahahahahahahahahhaahha!
Thanks for starting my Saturday off with a good laugh!
Walter is different, but he is smart and I think understands stuff. I do. I believe he is an honest person at least and cares and has the guts to say something.
I have a bit of advice for him - if he is reading though. I cannot bring myself to say this to him in person. Don't be offended and please take my advice Walter.
I believe you can win the 5th ward. In order to help you do so, it is important to be aware of professional attire. I believe in people being who they are, but if you are running for office, you should get a more professional persona. A better wardrobe. Nothing to formal, but some nice slacks and shoes and button down shirts. Start to look like an alderman and people are more apt to not lose you messages. I say this to help you in achieving your goals. If you are going to be a public figure and taken seriosuly, you have to look like one. Always. Even at the grocery store.
Good luck to you.
Year after year and election after election we are always wanting to clean house. What is it about Davenport that we can't seem to get a group of people to work well for us?
Here's a question just for fun. Who is running that you think should not run and why?
