all the nuts are not in trees
The world seems to be getting crazier every day. The guy who killed his son was found after he commited suicide, a woman steals another womans baby at gun and knifepoint, bombs and weapons found in a kid's house. Shootings are up in the QC, wrecks on the highway have been more horrendous. With the exception of the accidents, did all these nuts proclaim September as go ballistic month? There was even a school shooting in Canada! And to add the icing on the cake, I see where Pachino Hill got probation for his latest brush with the law. I think these judges better wake up and enforce the laws. If there are loopholes, close them. If the defendant is poor, minority, or was beaten by his father when he was young, send them to prison. And while we're at it, why not bring back the death penalty? The bleeding hearts say it's not a deterent, I think it is. The problem with the law now is most people on death row spend decades on appeals and some die of natural causes. If that were changed to one appeal it would speed things up. In this age of DNA testing I think that's more than fair, and I don't think it's too much to ask. Lock these jerks up and give us back our cities.

The reason the death penalty isn't a deterrant is that murder is rarely considered in a rational, cost/benefit way. Its usually anger, alcohol, and a firearm. I pretty much think the death penalty isn't worth the trouble. It just tells people that violence can be a solution after all.
You make a very good point. But if the death penalty isn't the answer, and probation isn't the answer, what is? Everybody gets mad at some point in their lives, but not everybody kills in their fit of anger.
