My two cents worth

The Village of East Davenport seems to be the subject lately so here goes. Back in the 1970's there were at least 12 bars on Mound and accross 11th. streets, three resturaunts, a barber shop, Isabel Bloom's studio, a dry cleaners, and other assorted small businesses. The cottages surrounding said businesses were homes, not shops. There were Octoberfests held every year and not a lot of trouble. I believe the parking parking problem is a no brainer. When you have two lane streets with every building on the block a small business, you will have parking problems. How are the businesses in this part of town going to compete with the Freight House market when it happens?
The business license thing is another joke. Evidently the city doesn't check on a regular basis. There's a surprise. When these people pay for their license, do they have to pay late fees retroactive to the date they opened? If not, why not? As the old adage goes- ignorance of the law is no excuse.

No one will go to the frieght house. No one has gone there in the last 20 years. East Davenport has nothing to fear.

You are very wrong about nobody going to the Freight House. About 10 years ago when they had bands outside it rivaled the district. But then, due to the persistent bitching of a couple on the 200 block of Western, (and a very few amount of other people) the Freight House could no longer have outside entertainment. Due to the bitching of a few people, a very lucrative business went broke. By the way, the couple on Western divorced and moved out of the area a year later.
