The recent spate of rush hour pile ups got me thinking; what's causing them? The news mostly says it's lane closures and the rush hour itself. I say it safer cars. Don't call me a blooming idiot yet, hear me out.
In today's cars disc brakes are the norm, with some models having four wheel disc brakes. Then there's traction control, electronic assist steering, air bags, side curtain air bags etc. Add to this the fact that horsepower keeps going up and driver knowledge doesn't, pile ups are bound to happen. Some people get 2 feet from your back bumper at 65 mph thinking if it works for Tony Stewart, it will work for them. I'd be the first to admit I don't want to go one on one with Tony Stewart. If you think of a car as a two and a half weapon, you would be better off. People just don't think they can get a blow out, or have their car stall at highway speed, or even have an accelerator cable break. But if these things happen in a group of tailgating rush hour commuters things happen fast. So please people, if you can't slow down, at least give everyone else around you some room to maneuver.
I changed things around a bit, and added a few things. It's as new to me as it is to you, but I think it'll work. As usual I'll try to have a variety of topics, but come summer there will be more postings about car events. You can email me at cruisaholic@hotmail.com Keep the shiny side up!
